Shame On you!!!

What I can’t seem to understand is why the human race can’t seem to learn that they can’t play God, because they aren’t God. Choosing who lives and who dies no matter how much power you have, no matter who you are, or no matter what government you’re apart of does not give you the right or the authority to take a life or decide how their life is taken, whether it’s an animal or a human being. Canada is known for being a place of individuality, a place that supports and embraces things and cultures that are different...but we ban a breed of dogs because they are feared, if that’s the case then maybe you should ban cultures and people because they are feared for example Muslims whom are classified as terrorist can’t set foot anywhere without being stereotyped and feared because they might be wearing an explosive device. Now I am reading that baby seals are bashed in the head and skinned for their fur, after seeing it with my own eyes I don’t know how any human being with any kind of soul, or respect for life could do this. It not only made me sick to my stomach to watch, but it made me see that we are forgetting that the moral of life is to survive, we as a world have become so greedy, so vain, and our minds are consumed with this obsession of status, money, power, and material things to try and make us better than one another that any act of cruelty will be done in order to achieve these things. Bashing the head of a baby seal or a seal for that matter for their fur is no different than taking a child or a person and bashing their head in for their skin. because humans aren’t on the market...if anyone decided to start bashing their head in for their skin...better yet how about bash the head of your child or someone you’re close to and love very much, they would be considered crazy, sick, cruel, and would be punished...what makes seals any different? Is it because they can’t talk, is it because their level of intelligence don’t meet your expectation therefore you classify them as pointless living mammals and decided that they would make better coats? The title of the article read “Shame on you Canada”...I would have to say shame on the world for progressing to this state at all, things that seem to be of most importance to people in the world are things that won’t matter after we are dead and gone. I was taught that you do onto others as you want done to you, and I really think our so called leaders, Prime minister and anyone else supporting this act really underestimate the POWER of karma.

Sincerely,

Someone ashamed to be represented by you...

  1. First of all, I think you should calm down a little bit, Shanna, though I understand what your concern. To be the devil's advocate, I'd say that many of seal hunters depend of this activity for their livelihood. For some people like the Inuits, they have been doing it for generations and often it's their main source of food. Regarding the bashing on their heads to kill the seals, they say it is the less painful way to kill them as it kills the animal instantly whereas using another method may be more painful for the seals. Now, that said, I'm also against violence towards any living beings but we have to see the context too and things are changing albeit slowly. Have a nice day anyway.

  2. Ashwin, please don't mistake being un calm for being passionate,we are living in a generation where it isn't necessary for them to be a source of food, and it isn't the Inuits that are killing them either...and as far as I'm concerned there are plenty of other means of people fulfilling their livelihood (which is in no way an excuse for taking a life, i don't care what it is) For anyone who is against violence towards others that hardly qualifies as an excuse. and if you read the article and my letter carefully you will see my issue isn't that they are being bashed in the head for food because under the circumstances that would mean that it would be a necessary action for survival(in which case a simple shot to the head would be the quickest and most painless and they wouldn't be killed in such large numbers just what is needed would be taken) and FYI they bash them in the head because they don't want to mess up the coat...my issue is that these seals are being killed for their skin/fur, for clearly materialistic things, now although it is argued (in my opinion an excuse) that these actions are taken for measures to control the population then why don't we apply this method to parts of the world that are over populated? You also made a comment about how bashing them in the head is the quickest way to kill them, you clearly haven't seen the footage that is taken when they do this, considering that from what i saw after being bashed in the head and hearing them scream and trying to wiggle away, for me that hardly qualifies as a painless and quick death. I think the only part of your comment i agree with is that things are changing, they are getting worse but you have a nice day as well.

  3. I agree with you Shanna 16 000 percent. This gentleman clearly doesn't know what his talking about. For someone who's "also against violence towards any living beings" His not really showing it at all in that comment, cause what that means is you don't agree with living beings human, and animal alike being killed REGARDLESS. Devil's Advocate my ass, if you were all for no violence why would you challenge the flaws in this assessment??? All I am saying is Dude if you’re going to talk game like that you have to have a much better way to back up your talk because saying something like "seal hunters depend of this activity for their livelihood" Is bull, we are in the 21st century and yes things are changing slowly hints why they don't need to kill these seals or animals for that measure the way they do. And as for naming the Inuit’s ... Let me school you on them... they are also known as being called "The People". Because Inuit’s live in places where most plants didn’t grow, the traditional diet consisted of almost entirely meat, along with Whales, Walruses, and seals, fish were staples of their diet which means they hunted fish more than anything, it’s been like that since 1977 but if and when they hunted seals or any animal for that matter, they didn't beat them in the head first off and they used every part of that seal, there meat was for food, there fur was for clothes, Traditional Inuit clothing was made from animal skin and fur. Boots were also made from animal skins. Large, thick coats with big hoods called “Parkas” were worn as an outer layer, the animals bones for weapons or even jewellery nothing went to waste, it was there way of life and survival, whereas man today who don’t live in the Arctic travel there to kill seals and only uses their fur for fashion when the Inuit’s did it TO LIVE... WHAT MAN IS DOING IS WRONG AND EVEN THE INUIT’S WOULD AGREE. So again know your facts before you start talking and please be able to back them up because your comment was painful as well as sad.

  4. Sorry if I offended anyone; I didn't mean to hurt anyone's feelings. I was just trying to state the arguments of those advocating for sealing, not that I endorse these arguments; I don't get anything from this industry. Anyway, there is this FAQ of the CBC on seal hunting and interestingly enough comments most endorsed were those in favour of this activity. If this is reflective of the opinions of the general population, maybe that's why the Canadian government isn't much willing to take any radical action. We should just convince more people why this practice must stop by understanding the other side's rational, not by belittling the people saying them.
